We have upgraded our systems which means that you will see a new log-in page and will now be prompted to enter your card number. As security is our top concern, we want to make sure that you know that the new My Account log-in page is a genuine Travelex website page.
Cash Passport is a prepaid currency card. You “load” your holiday spending money onto it in advance (at a participating retail outlet) in Euros, British Pounds, US or Australian Dollars. Then you can use it at millions of Visa ATMs and retailers across the world to access your money quickly and safely.
Cash Passport is PIN and signature protected. To reduce the threat of fraud it doesn’t reveal any personal information and it’s completely separate from your bank account.
For more information about the security features please click here.
Cash Passport offers all the peace of mind and security of traditional travellers cheques, with more convenience worldwide. It also makes it much easier to stay in control of your holiday budget than a standard debit or credit card: you can only spend the pre-loaded balance and with fixed ATM fees it’s easier to manage your overseas spending.
Please click here for full details of the fees and limits.
The prepaid Euro card is the obvious choice for European countries, and likewise the British Pounds for a trip to the UK or US Dollar if you're off to America, Australian Dollars for a trip down under.
Each Cash Passport will work in other countries or areas. So no matter which currency you choose you can still use Cash Passport worldwide. The system will automatically convert your stored currency to the local one, for instance from British Pounds to Indian Rupees.
Withdraw local currency at any Visa or Plus ATM in the world: there are more than a million to choose from and you can check their locations using the Visa ATM locator.
Please note: There are a number of countries where the use of Cash Passport is not allowed as they are subject to US economic sanctions. If you attempt to use your card in any of these countries, your request will be declined and the reason given as 'Decline, prohibited country'.
The countries currently affected by sanctions are:
Myanmar (Burma), Cuba, Iran and Sudan
Your card is automatically activated within minutes of your purchase.
You can transfer funds to your card at the participating branches of the bank or retailer where you bought the card (for instance ABSA, Bidvest or Travelex). You can do this at any time during the three year life of the card.
Go to My Account and click the ‘Sign up’ button. You’ll be prompted to enter the primary card number. If you have more than one Cash Passport card ignore the last digit on each one and pick out the card with the lowest number: that’s your primary card.
Important note for FNB cardholders: My Account Card Sign-up
During the card registration process, you will be asked to provide your 'Mother's Maiden Name'. If you are a FNB cardholder you should enter your National ID number rather than a surname to match the data supplied during the registration process when the card was purchased.
Once you’ve signed in you can view your transaction history, change your PIN and manage your account.
You can manage these everyday aspect of your account online as soon as you’ve registered online at My Account, or you can call one of the Card Services numbers (they’re on the back of your card). Please note that you cannot change your PIN at an ATM.
You’ll need to download and complete our transaction query form. Click here for further details.

The card should work in any machine carrying the Visa logo. If it doesn’t the card may be faulty and you can get 24/7 help from Travelex via the
Global Emergency Assistance numbers.
Cash Passport uses a standard four digit PIN, but in some European or Far East locations you may be asked for a six digit PIN. However, if the ATM has been set-up correctly in compliance with Visa regulations you can still use your four digit PIN.
Note that if you make three invalid PIN entry attempts the card will be blocked for 24 hours, though you can always get it released by calling the Travelex Global Emergency Assistance helpline.
24/7 Global Emergency Assistance will get you back in control of your money. Instructions are available here.
You can use your Cash Passport to make a partial payment, and cover the balance with some other payment method. Just make sure you tell the cashier before you start the transaction and confirm the amount you want deducted from your card. The cashier should process your Cash Passport payment first, and then accept the remainder of the balance in whichever way you want to pay.
This should only happen when you don’t have enough money on the card to cover the purchase (though you can always use what money you do have on the card to make a partial payment – see above).
Be aware that some retailers such as restaurants and mail order companies may require the card to have an available balance greater than the purchase amount before they will authorise the payment.
We want to keep things simple and convenient. Cash Passport is designed to be used abroad where the use of Chip varies widely. The PIN and signature requirements will give full protection to your card’s balance.
In some places (usually hotels or for car hire) you may be asked for your card as “pre-authorisation” of your final payment. We don’t recommend you agree to this, because some of these companies may estimate your final bill and deduct money against that estimate for up to seven days, leaving you without access to the money held for other things. You can of course use the card to settle the final bill when it becomes due.
Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is an optional service that is sometimes offered by foreign retailers and ATM operators giving cardholders the choice of paying in either the currency of the country they are visiting or their domestic currency.
If you make a purchase or ATM withdrawal in the country of your card's currency e.g. using a Euro Cash Passport in the Eurozone and are offered DCC we advise you NOT TO TAKE IT.
In these cases please opt to pay in the local currency NOT SOUTH AFRICAN RAND to avoid paying and additional exchange rate.
DCC can also be applied to any South African issued card including credit and debit cards when used abroad.
We do not recommend using your Cash Passport to pre-authorise payments. When using your Cash Passport as payment at certain locations, before the transaction is authorised the merchant or service provider will check your card balance for the value of the bill, plus an additional 10% - 20%, which will automatically be added to cover tips, service charges or other variable costs.
When you use your Cash Passport to purchase fuel at an automated fuel pump there must be a minimum of US$49, or equivalent, credit on your Account. To make a telephone call there must be a minimum of US$15 credit. If you spend less than these minimum amounts it may take up to 7 days from the date of your purchase before the unused balance is available again. In all instances, only the final amount authorised by you will be debited from your account.
This is in line with standard card processing procedures.
If you provide your Cash Passport as a guarantee of payment, for example at hotels or vehicle rental companies, the staff at these locations will estimate the amount of your expenditure and verify that your card has sufficient funds to pay your estimated bill. This preauthorized amount will then be “held” against your account, making it unavailable for other purchases or withdrawals. When you settle your final bill, the merchant or service provider usually releases the hold on these funds. However, it may take up to 7 days for the “held” amount to clear.
Cruise lines will not accept your Cash Passport for establishing an on board spending account when checking in. However your card can be used in most instances to settle your final bill. For these reasons, and the potential amounts involved, we therefore advise against using your card to preauthorize expenditure.
This is in line with standard card processing procedures.
No, cashback is not available on Cash Passport.
You can either transfer your account and any funds to a new card or cashout the balance and close your account.
If you would prefer not to keep your card for another trip, you can withdraw your remaining balance from any ATM displaying the Visa or Plus logo, or you can cashout the balance at the retailer you bought the card from or by calling Card Services. An administrative fee applies. (See clause 8 and 9 of your Terms and Conditions)
For full details of cashouts or closing Cash Passport accounts please see your Terms & Conditions.
We don’t provide paper statements but you can always view your transactions and statements in your secure account areas online, and print those details at your convenience.
