Using Your Cash Passport

Before you go - this bit’s important!

Please sign the back of your card as soon as you get it, then memorise your PIN. If you have a MasterCard Cash Passport and bought online then please call 0800 015 0401 to activate your card and access your PIN. If you want to change your PIN to something more memorable, simply go to an ATM displaying the MasterCard® Acceptance Mark in the UK, select PIN Services and follow the instructions on screen.

If you have a Visa Cash Passport and you want to change your PIN to something more memorable, simply go to My Account and follow the instructions. Or you can call us and change your PIN over the phone.

Then just like a bankcard, you can use your Thomas Cook Cash Passport at ATMs displaying the MasterCard  Acceptance Mark or the Visa or Plus logo (depending on which type of Cash Passport you have). Simply enter your PIN and how much you want to take out. Customer feedback suggests that some countries may impose their own daily or weekly ATM withdrawal limits, which override higher limits on bankcards, including your Cash Passport. Please refer to the Budget Calculator for country specific details. After that, all you have to worry about is what to spend it on.

You can also use your Thomas Cook Cash Passport at any retailer showing the MasterCard Acceptance Mark or Visa or Plus logo (depending on which type of Cash Passport you have).

When travelling, you may be asked whether you want to pay for your purchase in the local currency or British Pounds.

Avoid paying two exchange rate conversions: For example, if you choose to pay in British Pounds with a Euro Cash Passport in Spain, you will be subject to our exchange rate for a transaction in a different currency to that loaded on your card PLUS an additional exchange rate imposed by the merchant or ATM operator in converting your payment back into British Pounds. In order to avoid this additional exchange rate, we advise that where the local currency is the same as the currency of your card, you always pay in the local currency.

Avoid unpredictable rates: If your card is loaded in a different currency to the local currency, for example, a British Pounds Cash Passport that you’re using in Spain, and you are given the option of paying in British Pounds instead of Euros, please note that Cash Passport has no control over the exchange rate that the merchant or ATM operator will apply and accordingly you may be charged more if you choose to pay in British Pounds.
