The Thomas Cook Cash Passport can be used to withdraw local currency at ATMs worldwide, or to pay directly at merchants, including shops, restaurants and entertainment venues, displaying the Visa or Plus logo or the MasterCard® Acceptance Mark (depending on which type of Cash Passport you have). Because it's a prepaid card, your spending is limited to the amount of money available on your card.
Thomas Cook Cash Passport is PIN and signature protected, so no one can access your funds without your PIN. Because Thomas Cook Cash Passport does not feature personal identification information or bank account information on the card you are also more protected from identity fraud. We offer seven currencies, British Pounds, Euros, US Dollars, Australian Dollars, South African Rand, New Zealand Dollars and Canadian Dollars.
We advise you to take the Euro card to European countries, the US Dollar card to the US and so on according to the currency. Click here for more help on taking the right currency card by using our Budget Calculator.
You can use your card at ATMs worldwide displaying either the Visa or Plus logo or MasterCard® Acceptance Mark (depending on which type of Cash Passport you have). There are over 1 million Visa and 2 million MasterCard ATMs worldwide that you can withdraw local currency from. To check on their location visit the ATM locator. Alternatively, you can use the card to pay directly for goods or services at any retailers that accept Visa or MasterCard (depending on which type of Cash Passport you have).
No matter which currency you purchase the card can still be used worldwide. For example if you purchased a Euro Thomas Cook Cash Passport you can still use it at ATMs in America, but the balance in Euros will attract a currency conversion from Euros to US Dollars.
Please note: There are a number of countries where the use of Cash Passport is not allowed as they are subject to US economic sanctions. If you attempt to use your card in any of these countries, your request will be declined and the reason given as 'Decline, prohibited country'.
The countries currently affected by sanctions are:
Myanmar (Burma), Cuba, Iran and Sudan
Other sanctions/restrictions may apply - please refer to the H.M. Treasury website at http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/fin_sanctions_role.htm for more details.

Cash Passport uses a standard four digit PIN, but in some European or Far East locations you may be asked for a six digit PIN. However, if the ATM has been set-up correctly in compliance with Visa / MasterCard regulations you can still use your four digit PIN.
Note that if you make three invalid PIN entry attempts the PIN will be blocked for 24 hours, although you can always get it released by calling the Travelex Global Emergency Assistance helpline.
24/7 Global Emergency Assistance will get you back in control of your money. Instructions are available here.
If the merchant supports it you can use your Cash Passport to make a partial payment, and cover the balance with some other payment method. Just make sure you tell the cashier before you start the transaction and confirm the amount you want deducted from your card. The cashier should process your Cash Passport payment first, and then accept the remainder of the balance in whichever way you want to pay.
Normally this will happen if you don’t have enough funds on your card to cover the cost of the purchase. You can use the balance, however, for part payment and complete with another payment method. Inform the retailer of the balance available and process your Thomas Cook Cash Passport transaction first, using another form of payment to pay the difference, subject to the policy of the retailer.
Please be aware that some retailers such as restaurants and mail order companies may require the card to have an available balance greater than the purchase amount before they will authorise the payment.
ATMs in some countries may have their own limits regarding the amount of money you can withdraw per day or per week. These limits may be lower than the limit on your card and may stop you accessing your funds. If you think this is the case, please call Card Services.
We don’t recommend using your Thomas Cook Cash Passport as a guarantee of payment (usually for things like hotels, car hire and petrol pumps) that is also known as pre-authorisation. These companies often estimate the bill then ‘hold’ the amount for up to seven days, often leaving you without sufficient funds. You can, however, use your Thomas Cook Cash Passport to settle your final bill.
Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is an optional service that is sometimes offered by foreign retailers and ATM operators giving cardholders the choice of paying in either the currency of the country they are visiting or their domestic currency. If you make a purchase or ATM withdrawal in a country where the local currency is the same as the currency of your card (e.g. using a US Dollar Cash Passport in the USA) and opt in to a DCC service, this may result in a foreign exchange transaction at additional cost to you. If you wish to avoid this risk, you should opt out of the DCC service and choose to pay in the local currency. DCC can also be applied to any domestic debit or credit card when used abroad.
No, cashback is not available on Cash Passport.
You can either transfer your account and any funds to a new card or cashout the balance and close your account.
If you would prefer not to keep your card for another trip, you can withdraw your remaining balance from any ATM displaying the Visa or Plus logo or the MasterCard® Acceptance Mark (depending on the type of Cash Passport you have), or you can cashout the balance at the retailer you bought the card from or by calling Card Services. An administrative fee applies. (See your Terms and Conditions for further details)
