We have upgraded our systems, which means that you will see a new log-in page, where you will now be prompted to enter the first 6 digits of your Cash Passport number. As security is our top concern, we want to make sure that you know that the new ‘My Account’ log-in page is a genuine website page.
Cash Passport is a MasterCard® or Visa prepaid currency card. You “load” your travel money onto it in advance, and then use it at millions of MasterCard® or Visa ATMs, as well as merchants, across the world to access your money quickly and safely (please note, the Visa Cash Passport can only be used for ATM withdrawals).
The new MasterCard® Cash Passport is chip and PIN protected, for even more security. The Visa Cash Passport is PIN and signature protected. To reduce the threat of fraud, Cash Passport doesn’t reveal any Personal Information and it’s completely separate from your bank account.
For more information about the Cash Passport security features, please click here.
Cash Passport offers all the peace of mind and security of traditional travellers cheques, with more convenience worldwide. It also makes it much easier to stay in control of your travel budget than a standard debit or credit card; you can only spend the pre-loaded balance, and with fixed ATM fees it’s easier to manage your overseas spending.
Your Cash Passport is PIN protected, so you don't need to carry ID to access your funds. And because you can access your money through millions of Visa or MasterCard® ATMs worldwide, you don't need to find a location that accepts travellers cheques.
Please click here for full details of the fees and limits for your MasterCard® or Visa Cash Passport.
In New Zealand, you can choose from five currencies to load on your Cash Passport; Euros, British Pounds, US Dollars, Australian Dollars and New Zealand Dollars. When choosing your Cash Passport, we recommend buying it in the currency that your destination trades in. The prepaid Euro Card is the obvious choice for European countries, choose the British Pound Cash Passport for a trip to the UK, a US Dollar Card if you're off to America and an Australian Dollar Cash Passport when you’re travelling to Australia.
Each Cash Passport will work worldwide though. So, no matter which currency Card you choose, you can still use your Cash Passport in countries or areas with a different currency. The system will automatically convert your stored currency to the local one, for instance from British Pounds to Indian Rupees. If you are travelling to destinations not listed above, we recommend buying an NZ$ Cash Passport.
The Cash Passport ATM card can be used to access local currency at over 1 million Visa ATMs worldwide. Please click here to find your closest ATM.
Please note: There are a number of countries where the use of Cash Passport is not allowed as they are subject to US economic sanctions. If you attempt to use your card in any of these countries, your request will be declined and the reason given as 'Decline, prohibited country'.
The countries currently affected by sanctions are:
Cuba, Iran, Myanmar (Burma), Sudan and Syria
The MasterCard® Cash Passport can be used to pay directly for goods or services at merchants worldwide, including online, that display the MasterCard Acceptance Mark. As long as the online retailer accepts MasterCard, then you can use your Cash Passport to shop online (within the limits and restrictions of your Card), although you may be asked to provide the security code that’s printed on the signature strip on the back of your Card.
The Visa ATM Cash Passport is designed to provide access to local currency at over one million Visa ATMs worldwide and cannot be used for shopping online.
Please check the list of sanctioned countries (see FAQ above), where your Cash Passport cannot be used, for either (online) purchases or ATM withdrawals.
Your Cash Passport is automatically activated within four hours of you receiving it. Please make sure you sign the back of your Card immediately, using a ballpoint pen.
Your Cash Passport is reloadable as many times as you want – within the limits and restrictions of your Card.
Even with a zero balance, your Cash Passport is still valid (see expiry date printed on your Card), and you can reload it for your next trip anytime. There are two options available to New Zealand cardholders for reloading funds onto your Cash Passport. You can reload your Card online from anywhere in the world, using Bill Payment through your phone/internet banking. You can also do it in person before you leave, at an authorised Cash Passport stockist.
Click here for full details of how to reload your Card.
If you purchased your Cash Passport outside New Zealand, please visit your local Cash Passport website for information on how to reload it. See www.cashpassport.com for Cash Passport websites for other countries.
Click on the link for 'My Account' and enter the first 6 digits of your Cash Passport Card number. You will be taken to another screen which will either ask you to enter a User Name and Password or the your full 16 digit Cash Passport Card number.
The first time you try to log in to ‘My Account’ you will not have a User Name and Password, so please select the 'Need a Login?' (MasterCard cardholders) or 'Sign Up' (Visa Cardholders) link and then follow the instructions on the screen.
For more information please refer to our step by step guides by clicking here.
You can manage these everyday aspects of your Cash Passport online, as soon as you’ve registered your Card at 'My Account', or you can call one of the Card Services numbers. Please note that you CANNOT change your PIN if you have a MasterCard® Cash Passport.
If you have any queries about your Cash Passport balance or you notice a Card transaction that you do not recognise, please notify the 24 hour Card Services team without undue delay, and in any event no later than 60 days after the debit date. They will be happy to check and confirm the transaction details for you.
If there is a transaction which is not correct, Card Services can start the dispute process on your behalf and may request you to provide additional written information concerning any unrecognised transaction, or to complete a Dispute Claim Form (see Terms and Conditions for further information). Please help them to help you, by providing as much information as you can. It is recommended that you check your transaction history and Card balance at least once a month.

Cash Passport should work in any ATM displaying the MasterCard® Acceptance Mark or Visa or Plus logo. If it doesn’t, the Card may be faulty and you can get 24/7 help via the Global Emergency Assistance numbers.
Please note, if an ATM screen prompts you to choose 'Which account?' it is recommended that you choose the ‘Credit’ option.
Cash Passport uses a standard four digit PIN, but in some European or South East Asian locations you may be asked for a six digit PIN. However, if the ATM has been set-up correctly in compliance with MasterCard or Visa regulations (depending on which Cash Passport you have), you can still use your four digit PIN.
Please note that the PIN may be disabled if it is incorrectly entered three times and you will not be able to make any PIN based transactions with your Card. If the PIN is disabled, please call Card Services to reactivate the PIN. There may be a 24 hour delay in reactivating a disabled PIN.
24/7 Global Emergency Assistance will get you back in control of your money. Instructions are available here.
If your Cash Passport doesn't have enough money on it to withdraw the amount you need from an ATM, you can reload your Card and then, once the funds are available on your Card, withdraw the amount you need.
For details on how to reload, click here.
If the merchant supports it, you can use your MasterCard® Cash Passport to make a partial payment, and cover the balance of a purchase with some other payment method. Just make sure you tell the cashier before you start the transaction and confirm the amount you want to be deducted from your Card. The cashier should process your Cash Passport payment first, and then accept the remainder of the balance in whichever way you want to pay it.
This should only happen when you don’t have enough money on the card to withdraw the amount you want. If you need to load more money onto your card, you can reload online and then, when the funds have arrived on your card, withdraw the desired amount.
Your card will also be declined if it has been blocked for any reason. if this is the case, please contact Card Services immediately.
In some places (usually hotels or car hire companies) you may be asked for your MasterCard® Cash Passport as “pre-authorisation” of your final payment. We don’t recommend you agree to this, because some of these companies may estimate your final bill and deduct money against that estimate for several days, during which you can’t access those funds for other things. You can of course use the Card to settle the final bill, when it becomes due.
As the Visa ATM Cash Passport is designed for use at ATMs only, the Card can not be used for pre-authorisations.
Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is an optional service that is sometimes offered by foreign retailers and ATM operators, giving cardholders the choice of paying in either the currency of the country they are visiting or their own domestic currency.
If you make a purchase or ATM withdrawal in a country where the local currency is the same as the currency of your Card (e.g. using a US Dollar Cash Passport in the USA) and you opt into a DCC service, this may result in a foreign exchange transaction at additional cost to you. To avoid paying an additional exchange rate, if your Cash Passport is in the currency of the country you are in, you should NOT opt in to DCC, but choose to pay in the local currency.
DCC can also be applied to any other New Zealand issued card, including credit and debit cards, when used abroad.
If you provide your MasterCard® Cash Passport as a guarantee of payment, for example at hotels or vehicle rental companies, the staff at these locations may estimate the amount of your expenditure and verify that your Card has sufficient funds to pay your estimated bill. This pre-authorised amount may then be “held” against your MasterCard® Cash Passport, making it unavailable for other purchases or withdrawals. When you settle your final bill, the merchant or service provider usually releases the hold on these funds.
However, it may take several days for the “held” amount to clear.
Cruise lines will not accept your MasterCard® Cash Passport for establishing an onboard spending account, when checking in. However, your Card can be used in most instances to settle your final bill.
For these reasons, and the potential amounts involved, we therefore advise against using your MasterCard® Cash Passport to pre-authorise expenditure.
This is in line with standard card processing procedures.
We would not recommend using your MasterCard® Cash Passport to pre-authorise payments.
When using your MasterCard® Cash Passport as payment at certain locations, the merchant or service provider may check your Card balance before the transaction is authorised, for the value of the bill, plus an additional 10% - 20%, which will automatically be added to cover tips, service charges or other variable costs.
When you use your MasterCard® Cash Passport to purchase fuel at an automated fuel pump, there must be a minimum balance of US$49, or equivalent, on your Card. To make a telephone call, there must be a minimum balance of US$15, or equivalent. If you spend less than these minimum amounts, it may take several days from the date of your purchase before the unused balance is available again. In all instances, only the final amount authorised by you will be debited from your MasterCard® Cash Passport.
This is in line with standard card processing procedures.
You can either transfer any funds to a new Card or cashout the balance and close your Cash Passport.
If you would prefer not to keep your Card for another trip, you can withdraw your remaining balance (assuming it is within the ATM’s issuing limits) from an ATM, displaying the MasterCard® or Visa Acceptance Mark (depending on which type of Cash Passport you have).
Alternatively, download a Cashout form here and send it to our Customer Services Team. A cashout fee applies.

We don’t normally provide paper statements, but you can always view your transactions and statements securely, by visiting the‘
